Inquiring minds want to know: Is Mayor Adams married? 興味あるよね、アダムス市長は結婚しているの?
For most politicians, their family life tends to be prominent. For Mayor Adams he says, “My secrecy is my family. I signed up for this life. They did not sign up for this life.”
Along with being the mayor of New York City, Adams is also a husband and father. Adams is married to Tracey Collins, and is a father to one son: Jordan Coleman. In June of 2021, Mayor Adams opened up about his private life and said that he prefers to keep it that way. “Throughout my entire police career, none of my colleagues knew I had a son. I wanted to shield him from the reality of what I was doing. I became very private,” he said.
*When you tell someone that “inquiring minds want to know,” you’re asking them to unveil secret, confidential information or data that’s out of the public view. The idiom also refers to the nature of a curious mind wanting to learn more about certain topics.

*In contrast, the previous mayor, Bill De Blasio, often put his family in the spotlight. He used his interracial marriage to build appeal among voters.
Is Eric Adams vegan? エリック・アダムスはビーガンなの?
More recently, Adams opened up to the New York Post about how becoming a vegan saved his life. Years of eating junk food while on the job, led to weight gain, nerve damage, and vision loss to Type 2 diabetes. In 2016, he then found a doctor in Ohio who advised him to change his diet. Just months after sticking with a vegan diet, he says that he regained his vision and other problems subsided.

Why do you think New Yorkers like Eric Adams?
Like so many New Yorkers, he grew up with adversity—and overcame it. According to the Office of the Mayor’s website, as one of six children, raised in Jamaica, Queens by a single mom who cleaned houses, Eric and his family did not always know if they would come home to an eviction notice on the front door or food on the table. And when he was beaten by police in the basement of a precinct house at 15, Eric faced a life-changing act of injustice. But instead of giving into anger, Eric turned his pain into purpose and decided to change the police department from within. He joined the NYPD and became one of its most reform-minded and outspoken officers. He called out racism and bias in the department and pushed for major reforms. Eric’s efforts to change policing began his lifelong work to improve and protect New York. Also, Eric Adams never rests on his laurels. Mayor Adams is lifelong learner. He received his master’s degree in public administration from Marist College, and is a graduate of New York City Technical College and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is also a proud product of New York City public schools, including Bayside High School in Queens. Today he lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where he has resided for over 20 years.

How do you think Mayor Adams can make NYC great again?
At the time of writing this podcast, the city has been feeling optimistic about the new mayor. However, recent police deaths and noticeable spikes in crime have a lot of people worried. The honeymoon period for Eric Adams, New York City’s newly elected mayor, is an opportunity to propose a transformational economic growth plan in his February budget. During the campaign, Adams made remarks such as “New York will no longer be anti-business” — an about-face from former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s eight-year record.

an about-face from ~からの180度の方向転換 sluggish recovery 鈍い回復 in record number 記録的な数で sanitation 公衆衛生
The city lost nearly 615,000 jobs over the course of the pandemic. Why the sluggish recovery? For decades, New York has been at the bottom of rankings for having the worst tax, regulatory, and business environment in the country. Those are the facts. Businesses are leaving in record numbers for low-tax states such as Florida and Texas and taking their tax revenue and workers with them. Making all these problems more complex is that economic growth is closely linked with quality-of-life concerns such as crime and sanitation, which also need turning around. regulatory 規制の in record numbers 記録的な数で tax revenue 税収、税収入

Yeah, I think that image comes to a lot of people’s minds. Cops and donut shops. There’s definitely some truth to it. It’s true, in that you almost never see officers in uniform sitting down to eat in a restaurant. Being a police officer is a profession that demands the ability to instantly drop everything and switch to another task, fast food tends to fill that need. You don’t have to wait more than a minute to get your food. If you decide to dump it because you don’t have time to eat, then it doesn’t cost much.
Veganism has become way more mainstream in just the past—I’d say—3 years. The lifestyle and nature of the job of a police officer makes it very hard to eat healthy. If they are bringing their own lunch from home, then having a vegan meal might be possible. Grab-and-go foods like power bars have replaced full meals. Historically New Yorkers have tended to eat on the go. Now with so many jobs that allow work from home, you don’t have to worry about getting from point A to point B and squeezing in a meal in-between. Most vegan food is going to be available at a sit-down, slow food restaurant, or maybe at the hot bar of Whole Foods. Eating vegan 100% of the time is probably impossible for an active-duty police officer. And by “probably” I mean absolutely. ;) eat on the go 移動しながら食べる whole food 自然食品◇自然のまま手を加えていない野菜や果物を指すことが多い。←→ processed food
